T O P I C R E V I E WTRSOff topic but here's a shout out to Kiwi cS'er Burns (burnsnz) who is sail designer for Team New Zealand, who have their first race in the challenger series for the America's Cup in a few hours from now.Go Kiwi!CheersCraig PhilipGreat to know that!icarkieBad luck to Burns and his team mates at the Emirate Team New Zealand in this years America's Cup.They lost 5 - 2 in the best of 9 races, the decider by 1 second to the Swiss Team Alinghi.Iancspg Chris.P.S. I couldn't care less about boats, racing, rich folks and what they do with their money & time and the yacht club is right down town here in Geneva. Larry McGlynnYou know the World is coming to an end when a landlocked country wins the premier sailing event. We need to go back to the old rules of countries having to use their own technology and having to sail their vessel from their country to the race course site. There is something to be said for tradition. Hell, the next thing you know the French will be calling everyone else arrogant. Larry McGlynncspgLarry,I agree. And when you look at Alinghi's crew, I'm not quite sure they're all Swiss...Funny how big bucks can ruin so many things.Chris.1202 AlarmI'm Swiss like Chris, living in Geneva. it's true and sad, there's just one Swiss aboard Alignhi, and that's the owner, Ernesto Bertarelli. But what's the problem ?Von Braun and his folks were not born in the USA though I never heard that Apollo was anything but a US achievement. And in Formula One, the Italian Ferrari team has Brasilian and Finnish drivers, a French boss and German Sponsors.Alinghi is Swiss, and Switzerland is the America's Cup 2007 winner. Period. And regarding 'big bucks ruining things', at least it's less disastrous than having a country like China hosting the olympics.Edited by 1202 AlarmcspgAnd WHO said that I was Swiss, huh?I live here (ok, and I was born here too) but that's about it.Chris.Mentioning Formula One gave me a hint as to who you are... 1202 Alarm quote:Originally posted by cspg:Mentioning Formula One gave me a hint as to who you are... Since we know each other since 1980, I hope you know indeed !Larry McGlynnGuys,The crews are not an issue. If you look at the history of the America's Cup. Foreign crewmates were accepted on both American and British yachts during the last two centuries of the cup. The rule change that made the difference was the elimination of a country's use of only it's technology. That change allowed Australia II to use a Dutch tank test facility to perfect it's hull design that won the Cup in 1983. I was there for the series and I was bummed. The changes had to be made, since we held the cup for 132 years and there was no sign of it ever leaving the NYYC unless countries could use as up to date technology as the USA had at it's disposal at the time.I just wish a real seafaring nation like China would win it. Larry,In view of their performance (or lack thereof) in the Cup, I don't think so! Chris.burnsnzHi Craig,I only just noticed this post today! Thanks for that. Close but no cigar for Team NZ this time in the AC. Anyway, with the America's Cup out of the way, I can get my life back to normal a little and get back into collecting - Looking forward to Spacefest after missing the UACC show in Florida due to work committments. All the BestBurns - Still in Valencia but heading back to NZ on Tuesday
